"History is a living horse laughing at a wooden horse. History is a wind blowing where it listeth. History is no sure thing to bet on. History is a box of tricks with a lost key. History is a labyrinth of doors with sliding panels, a book of ciphers with the code in a cave of the Saragossa sea. History says, if it pleases, Excuse me, I beg your pardon, it will never happen again if I can help it."

—Carl Sandburg (1878-1967) American writer known for free verse, Smoke and Steel

Waucoma Bookstore and the Hood River County Library are hosting author Ken Scholes for a book reading on Thursday, Nov. 12th at 7:00pm. Scholes will be reading from his new book "Canticle", the second book in “The Psalms of Issak” series.

About the Book

Come back to the Named Lands in this compelling sequel to Ken Scholes amazing novel “Lamentation”.

The Great Library, which housed the knowledge of the past, was destroyed by a weapon older than the Named Lands.  The Order, who were the gatherers of this knowledge and protectors of  the Great Library, are no longer.  It is now the responsibility of Rudolfo The Gypsy King to carry on in their absence.  As construction is underway on the new library, Rudolfo celebrates the coming of his first born and heir to his Kingdom.  During this celebration, tragedy strikes and all the nobles, save Rudolfo, are slain.  Meanwhile, a message arrives at the border between the Named Lands and the Churning Waste which states, "Sanctorum Lux must be protected."  With this message brings hope that not all knowledge was destroyed, and the possibility that a second library may be hidden away.  So begins "The Second Volume of the Psalms of Isaak."  While the search continues to gather up the remaining knowledge, will the Named Lands fall to chaos or is there a Mastermind pulling stings and shaping the world to his liking?

"Canticle" is the second book of  “The Psalms of Isaak”, a five book series from Tor publishing.
