Friends Sunday Programs

Beginning in November, the Friends of the Hood River County Library will be hosting occasional Sunday programs in the library meeting room. Join Melissa Bickle, OSU Master Gardener volunteer, for the first program on Sunday, November 15th from 2-3pm. Melissa will explain how you can help educate and advise new and inexperienced home gardeners in the gorge. If you have interest in improving your horticultural knowledge and would like to volunteer with Master Gardeners, please attend this informational talk. 

Letters About Literature

The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and Target presents Letters About Literature, a national reading and writing promotion program. Students in grades 4-12 are encouraged to write a letter to their favorite author past or present, explaining how his or her work changed their view of the world or themselves. State first place winners will receive cash awards and Target Gift Cards. Six national winners will also be chosen. Oregon Book Award Winners

The Oregon Book Awards are presented annually for the finest accomplishments by Oregon writers who work in genres of poetry, fiction, literary nonfiction, drama and young readers literature. The winning titles will soon be available for checkout at the library.

Library Wish Lists 

Thank you Waucoma Bookstore, 212 Oak Street and Book Stop, 13 Oak Street, for hosting the Library Wish Lists during the month of October. The Friends of the Library created the wish lists so we could have new books for the library.

Thank you to all the community members who purchased one or more books from the wish lists. The November wish lists are now available at Waucoma and Book Stop, so community members have further opportunities to contribute.

The Library would like also like to thank Waucoma Bookstore for hosting a Library Benefit Night on October 6th. Waucoma donated 20% of purchases to the Hood River County Library for Library Books.
